This project on West Forest Road in Vail overcomes the challenges of maintaining a majority of existing space in the two units of a duplex structure on a steep narrow lot. Although the street façade is reminiscent of the original structure the addition of roof dormers and restructuring of some the existing spaces open up views to Lionshead, the south side additions respond to the delightful private uphill views. The new south side outdoor spaces are carefully adapted to the challenging terrain providing quality outdoor living spaces and opening up the existing and new space to natural light.
